Walkinshaw Andretti United part-owner Zak Brown has said the team’s all-new driver line-up is having a similar positive effect on the squad that McLaren experienced last season with Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris.
WAU signed Tickford star Chaz Mostert and 2019 Super2 champion Bryce Fullwood for 2020 to end a 9-year stint with James Courtney, with the last three being teamed with Scott Pye.
Brown, who has been involved within the McLaren Formula One team since 2016 and WAU since 2018, has suggested that the current vibe within the WAU team is similar to when McLaren signed an all-new driver pairing in 2018.
“I think there’s a good vibe in the [WAU] garage,”
Brown said.
“Not to talk too much about McLaren, but obviously with the two [new] drivers there [in 2019], I can see the similarities between changing some stuff up.
“It brings a bit of a fresh outlook. And Chaz has good experience, he’s got good insight into areas in which we can improve. He’s a bit of a team leader in that sense.”
Brown also added his praise for Mostert who has quickly adapted to his role team leader.
“He’s been great. He’s got a lot of energy, his feedback’s great, and he’s mega quick.
“So I think we’ve been a great addition to the team.”
At the Adelaide season-opener, Mostert finished second on Sunday’s race to match WAU’s best finish since Scott Pye’s memorable win at a wet Albert Park in 2018.
