The grid has been set for the first race of the 2023 Porsche Carrera Cup North America with Kiwi Ryan Yardley qualifying 15th for tomorrow’s season-opener.
This morning’s 40 minute session at Sebring International Raceway saw the Cantabrian set a best lap of 2:02.865 around the 6km circuit in places him right in the midst of an extremely compact mid-field.
So tight was the battle that even a time two tenths faster would have put the Kiwi in the top 10.
Fifteenth is still at the right end of the field, as 41 cars take part in the event. Yardley’s time also eclipsed his teammate Travis Wiley.
Riley Dickinson impressively took qualifying honours as the only competitor to go under the 2min 2sec mark. His 2:01.667 saw his Kellymoss entered Porsche top second-placed Jason Hart by a respectable .394 seconds.
McElrea Racing’s introduction into the North American edition of the Carrera Cup also started well with 2022 Porsche Sprint Challenge Australia victor Tom Sargent qualifying second and his teammate Thomas Nepveu in 12th.
Race 1 of the 2023 Porsche Carrera Cup North America Championship begins at 2.15am tomorrow morning (NZ Time) with Race 2 following at a more viewer-friendly time of 10.35am.
Both of Yardley’s races can be streamed live on the North American Porsche Carrera Cup website.
