Work to do for Armstrong and Lawson after tricky qualifying

A tricky wet weather qualifying at Imola has left Kiwi Formula 2 pair Marcus Armstrong and Liam Lawson with work to do.

Armstrong qualified ninth fastest, which is where he will start the feature race from.

Fortunately, the weekend’s first race is a reverse top-ten, putting Armstrong on the front row.

Meanwhile, Lawson could only manage the 14th fastest lap in qualifying. He starts there for both races this weekend.

“Felt good, just not our day,” Lawson said after qualifying.

Even before qualifying, the F2 field had little preparation time as Free Practice was shortened due to the conditions.

Armstrong’s session barely lasted five minutes as he crashed out early on.

“It wasn’t the day I hoped for but it’s the races that count,” Armstrong said.

Pole fell the way of Armstrong’s Hitech teammate Juri Vips.

The F2 sprint race starts at 4 am NZT on Sunday.
