The Formula 5000 class has been etched into New Zealand and Australian motorsport folklore. These thunderous 5.0 litre monsters defined the Tasman series across the 1970s and continue to wow crowds over at historical race meetings both here and across the ditch.
Then late last year, and after many delays we witnessed the launch of the S5000 class. Australia’s latest single-seater class, S5000 looked to incorporate many elements of a modern F3 chassis and amalgamate it with an F5000-inspired engine and design.
In this latest video published to the S5000 Facebook page, S5000 category manager Chris Lambden puts one of his cars side-by-side with a McRae GM1 to explain the differences and similarities between the two classes of race car.
