Max Verstappen’s good run of form has continued as he claimed pole for the Dutch Grand Prix at his home circuit tonight. Verstappen managed to put in the fastest time of the day ahead of championship rival Charles Leclerc, a narrow margin of .02 seconds splitting the pair.
Ferrari will be in a position to challenge the Manufacturer Championship leaders Red Bull come race-day after Carlos Sainz managed the third fastest time. The Spaniard will start alongside Lewis Hamilton in front of an orange and packed Zandvoort crowd.
Sergio Perez was let down late in the session by a spin on the penultimate corner, but was saved by yellow flags forcing the remaining drivers to slow. The top four had already completed their laps by this point. His earlier lap time, however, had been impressive enough to see him start fifth alongside the Mercedes of George Russell.
Lando Norris, Mick Schumacher, Yuki Tsunoda and Lance Stroll round out the top 10 respectively.
Daniel Ricciardo’s bad times at McLaren continue after the Australian was knocked out in Q1. He will start the race in 17th.
The saving grace for the team is a poor qualifying effort from Alpine after Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso were both knocked out in Q2. Their hopes will be lying with Norris to score good points to bring them back into the battle for fourth in the Constructors Championship.
