Shane van Gisbergen has bounced back in style by setting the fastest lap in the second practice session in Newcastle this afternoon.
A 1:11.7555 is the fastest lap of the weekend so far and shows Red Bull have pace as they put down their first meaningful laps of the season.
Will Davison was the first Mustang home in second overall only .0374 off top spot and .7 seconds clear of Broc Feeney in third.
Andre Heimgartner backed up his strong first practice with a solid showing for fifth, the first time he hasn’t finished on top in official Supercars proceedings this year.
Chaz Mostert was who separated Heimgartner from Feeney with another strong performance for a Mustang.
Scott Pye, Mark Winterbottom, Anton de Pasquale, Cameron Waters and James Courtney rounded out the top 10, making it an even mix of Camaro and Mustang in the top 10.
Matt Payne was 23rd as he put in 25 laps of solid race pace run time.
We can expect a faster third practice at 5.50pm as teams ramp up preparations for tomorrow’s qualifying run.
