Shane van Gisbergen has set the fastest time of the day in this evening’s practice session for the Gold Coast 500, setting a best lap of 1:10.6673 to top second fastest Chaz Mostert by 0.1975 seconds.
Jack Le Brocq set the third fastest time, a further one-tenth behind, while Scott Pye, who topped Practice 1, jumped to fourth on his final run.
Teams will be thankful for an interruption-free session, however, there were moments of untidiness for several contenders, including van Gisbergen, his teammate Broc Feeny, Mostert and Will Brown.
Van Gisbergen required the use of the Turn 11 run-off early in the session, while Feeney spun at the hairpin and was left stranded while waiting for a gap to turn back into. At the same time and corner, Brown also came unstuck, requiring a flick turn to resume.
Mostert, meanwhile, lost his left mirror after collecting the outside tyres when exiting the opening chicane.
Andre Heimgartner went to set the seventh-fastest time, 0.4341 seconds off the pace of van Gisbergen, while compatriot Matt Payne was 22nd, 1.12 seconds behind.
Having missed the opening session, Declan Fraser was again left stranded in the pit lane, reportedly suffering the same power steering issues.
Supercars return to the track at 2.35 pm tomorrow (NZ time) for Race 25 qualifying, followed by the Top 10 Shootout at 4.05 pm and the 85-lap opener at 6.45 pm.
