After two and a half years of watching from home, Shane van Gisbergen’s father is finally able to watch his son race a Supercar at the track.
SVG is thrilled to have his dad, Robert van Gisbergen, back at the track in Townsville this weekend after a two-and-a-half-year hiatus due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.
“Dad hasn’t been to a Supercars race since Adelaide 2020. He just turned up today, so it’s cool to have him here as well,” said van Gisbergen.
The two were reunited at last weekend’s Far North Rally in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand where SVG won.
“I want to go home as much as possible,”
“It’s a pretty cool time of year there, so I’ll be going back next week as well,” added van Gisbergen.
Van Gisbergen is also set to make his World Rally Championship debut here in September/October, an event in which him and his dad used to attend regularly when he was a youngster.
The focus for SVG this weekend is defending his Supercars championship title at Townsville with his dad cheering him on from the paddock.
