Less than 24 Hours after his oval debut in the Truck Series, Shane van Gisbergen has secured a top-ten start for the NASCAR Cup race on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course.
Van Gisbergen qualified in Group B, along with fellow Supercars start Brodie Kostecki, and progressed to the top 10 along with Michael McDowell, who topped the group, Kyle Larson, Alex Bowman, and Ty Gibbs.
Kostecki was sixth and failed to progress to the second round. He qualified 11th for the race after coming unstuck, collecting the Turn 11 wall and damaging his car late in the session, but drops to the rear of the field due to the significant repairs undertaken.
Daniel Suarez was the fastest in the second round of qualifying to claim pole, his best lap average speed of 99.814 mph topping Tyler Reddick by 0.145 mph.
Chase Elliott lines up on the second row next to McDowell, while Kyle Busch and Larson lockout the third row.
Van Gisbergen starts next to Christopher Bell, while Bowman and Gibbs round out the top 10.
World Endurance Champion Kamui Kobayashi starts 28th, and former Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button qualified 31st,
