Shane van Gisbergen faces a busy race in this weekend’s Xfinity Series outing at Texas Motor Speedway, having qualified 33rd for tomorrow morning’s Andy’s Frozen Custard 300.
Van Gisbergen was 28th of 38 drivers to take to the track, setting a 30.419-second lap that initially put him 23rd, 1.278 seconds behind provisional pole-sitter Riley Herbst.
All ten remaining drivers would better the Kiwi’s time, relegating him to 33rd at the end of the session.
The Kaulig Racing driver was 34th fastest in the earlier practice session, completing 26 laps for a best time of 31.105 seconds.
Taylor Gray, Jesse Love, Cole Custer and championship leader Chandler Smith would go on to better Herbst’s time, with Love claiming his third pole of the season with a 29.093-second effort, 1.326 seconds faster than van Gisbergen.
Just 0.061 seconds separated the top six, with Custer starting on the front row next to Love and ahead of Gray and Chandler Smith on the second row and Herbst and Justin Allgaier on row three.
AJ Allmendinger was the fastest Kaulig Racing driver in eighth, while Josh Williams qualified 22nd.
Sunday’s Andy’s Frozen Custard 250 at Texas Motor Speedway begins at 5.30 am (NZ time) and will be shown live on ThreeNow.
I guess it really is one heck of a lot harder to get the car and the driver to the sweet spot but feel sure they will be working on otThree Now again for viewing in NZ
