Shane van Gisbergen claimed his first-ever speedway victory over the weekend, adding to an already impressive portfolio of wins.
From the World Rally Championship to touring car racing, the three-time Supercars champion is no stranger to pedaling anything with wheels on all manner of surfaces.
His speedway victory comes after spending his New Zealand summer in the driver’s seat of a sprint car supplied by the United Truck Parts team.
After racing at tracks all over the country, his first victory came at the Robertson Prestige International Speedway in Palmerston North.
Van Gisbergen won the first Heat of the night on Saturday while coming third in Heat 2. He then finished first in the feature race, capping off an end to his season in speedway with a victory.
“Great way to finish off the speedway season for me,” van Gisbergen said in a social media post.
“Thanks a lot to Brian, Shaun and the United Truck Parts team for giving me a crack at it. A lot of fun, hope to have another go next season!”
Before he gets back behind the wheel in the 2023 Supercars Championship in March, van Gisbergen will race in the Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour on February 3 to 5, 2023.
