Shane van Gisbergen has completed a two-day ARCA pre-race test at Daytona International Speedway, setting the thirteenth fastest time on Day 1 before going seventh quickest on Day 2.
The 34-year-old completed the test with Pinnacle Racing Group, the same team he will join in next month’s race at the same venue in order to secure eligibility for the Xfinity Series opener later that day.
The opening day of testing’s proceedings was delayed due to weather conditions, but once the three-time Supercars champion hit the track, he was able to complete 33 laps for a best time of 49.674 seconds, eight-tenths off the fastest lap of Jake Finch.
He would improve his time on Day 2, setting a 49.410-second lap with an average speed of 182.149mph (293.14kph), the seventh-best overall.
William Sawalich, who won the 2023 ARCA East Series title, led the way on Day 2 with a 49.318-second effort.
Across both days, van Gisbergen’s best lap was the 12th fastest of the 76 drivers registered, with Finch’s Day 1 lap topping the time sheets.
The 80-Lap ARCA season opener at Daytona on February 16. Van Gisbergen’s 2024 Xfinity Series campaign with Kaulig Racing begins later that day.
The Kiwi is set for a busy 2024, competing across at least 41 races, including seven NASCAR Cup races.
Each Friday’s Velocity News Creme Insurance Motorsport Diary will provide race times and viewing information.
