Shane van Gisbergen has finished 15th in this morning’s Xfinity Series race at Nashville Superspeedway in Tennessee.
The three-time Supercars Champion had earlier qualified 28th for the race and worked up to a top-20 finish.
John Hunter Nemechek ran away from the field with Chandler Smith for victory, with third-placed Jesse Love finishing 8.579 seconds behind to complete the podium places.
Ty Gibbs earlier qualified on the pole and led the field to green on the inside line, with Cole Custer starting second on the outside.
The duo ran side-by-side for the opening lap before Gibbs cleared away at Turn 3 on Lap 2.
By Lap 30, Gibbs’s lead had grown to 3.5 seconds, but Kaulig Racing’s AJ Allmendinger closed to within 1.5 seconds entering the end of the opening stage.
Gibbs converted pole position into stage victory, ahead of Allmendinger, Brandon Jones, Custer and Justin Allgaier, the latter of whom made contact with Chandler Smith on Lap 3.
Van Gisbergen finished Stage 1 in 27th, dropping outside the top 30 shortly after the start before working his way forward.
Custer took the lead in pit lane under the caution, with Jones climbing to second and Gibbs falling to third. The Stage 1 winner took second place on the Lap 52 restart, and Nemechek followed through into third.
Nemechek continued working forward to win the incident-free second stage ahead of Allmendinger, Custer, Gibbs and Smith.
Van Gisbergen had quietly worked his way forward in the pack and was 18th at the green-and-white chequered.
Love and Jones were the biggest losers in pit lane, as slow stops dropped them out of the top ten.
Nemechek led the field to green on Lap 98, with Custer alongside. The latter hit the front soon after and was 1.2 seconds ahead by Lap 113 as Nemechek and Allmendinger battled for second.
Allgaier then made contact with Ty Gibbs’s left rear on Lap 136 while fighting for fourth, with Gibbs sent into a spin. Sixth-placed Smith was also caught out in the incident, making contact with a slowing Allgaier.
Pit lane was busy under the ensuing caution, with Allmendinger dropping from contention due to a slow stop.
Custer led the field to green on Lap 142, with Nemechek on the outside taking the lead through Turn 1.
A plastic bottle then lodged itself onto the leader’s grill. Nemechek managed the situation well and used Patrick Emerling’s lapped car to clear the debris and retain the lead.
Only Smith would match Nemechek’s pace from here, finishing 0.366s behind in second and 8.2s ahead of Love.
After the final restart, Van Gisbergn fought within a large group and finished 15th, just 0.278s behind Tyler Reddick.
Allmendinger recovered from his slow stop to finish seventh, while Kaulig Racing’s third car, Josh Williams, was 24th.
The Xfinity Series returns next weekend for the Chicago Street Race.
