Event organisers NIERDC and promoter Speed Works have confirmed the addition of a Two Hour race for the upcoming National Endurance Championship finale at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park.
The move gives club level competitors the opportunity to race on the 3.8-kilometre international circuit.
The addition comes after a successful 2021 season which saw growing interest and a 25 car entry list at the final North Island Endurance Series weekend at Bruce McLaren Motorsport Park.
Geoff Short the Speed Works’ promoter said that a number of competitors wanted to see a two-hour final.
“We were all very impressed with the growth in such a short space of time of the Two Hour format and it became a key part of the NIES weekends almost immediately,” Short said.
“Throughout the season competitors were asking about a final and an overall championship decider and we are delighted to be able to give them that. It’s all down to them of course.
“They have come out in droves during the season and we expect the numbers for this one-off final to be massive again, particularly as it’s on the international circuit.”
NIERDC’s David Dovey agreed. “Being a driver series NIERDC is always looking for new and interesting race opportunities and this is definitely one to do! If you are in the time bracket, get your skates on and enter!”
Eligibility for the race will be determined by lap times; cars will need to have lap times no faster than 1 minute 47 seconds on the Hampton downs international circuit.
All cars that competed in the two-hour races in the 2021 Golden Homes North Island Endurance series will be eligible, with a limited number of wildcard entries also available.
