Toyota Racing Series driver Spike Kohlbecker has confirmed he will compete in this year’s iteration of the Formula 4 United States Championship.
Kohlbecker competed for Kiwi Motorsport in TRS championsip earlier this year, finishing the season 13th with a best result of 5th in the opening race at Manfeild.
The move will see the 17-year-old American driver continue his relationship with Kiwi Motorsport team owners Garry Orton and Teena Larsen.
“We’re glad to have Spike back with the team here in the US. After watching Spike’s amazing progress in TRS we sat down with him and set forth a plan to run in the US and now that plan has come together,” Orton.
“After Spike’s breakout run at the New Zealand Grand Prix weekend where he secured his place as the series Most Improved Driver, I have no doubt Spike will be running up front here in the States.”
Kohlbecker added that he is excited to return home to race in the US while extending his strong relationship with Kiwi Motorsport.
“To say I’m excited to race in the US with Kiwi Motorsport is an understatement. I’ve already heard from many of my sponsors and supporters – it’s going to be great to have them in the stands and with me in the pits.
“I learned a lot from my time in New Zealand and I feel like I have a solid foundation coming into the year. This will be yet another challenge for me, but I am ready.”
The first round of the Formula 4 United States championship is slated to go ahead on 17-19 July at Virgina International Raceway.
Kohlbecker will join aspiring kiwi Ronan Murphy in the Crosslink/Kiwi Motorsport US F4 outfit.
