The ITM Taupo Super400 will launch on Thursday, April 18, with a special ‘Track to Town’ event. All 24 cars will make their way from Taupo International Motorsport Park to the town’s Roberts Street Riverside precinct.
Fans are encouraged to line the streets the day before official proceedings begin as all drivers make the first-of-a-kind 8.6km journey in their Chevrolet Camaros or Ford Mustangs.
The convoy will depart Taupo International Motorsport Park at 3.45 pm local time, heading towards Tapuaeharuru on the lakefront, near the #LoveTaupō sign in the town centre.
The cars will remain on display while drivers sign autographs for fans before returning to the circuit.
Supercars Chief Operating Officer Tim Watsford said: “We are sincerely grateful to the Taupō District Council for their unwavering support in making this unique event possible.
“The Track to Town journey is an exciting project that brings the Supercars experience right to the heart of Taupō, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to showcase our sport in such a vibrant community.”
“We invite fans to join us at the live site and at vantage points along the way as Supercars take to the streets against the breathtaking backdrop of Taupō.”
Two nights of concerts will also be held at the Great Lake Centre, with Country music sensation Kaylee Bell taking to the stage on Friday, April 19, and Six60 performing a day later.
Other categories competing at the ITM Taupo Super400 are the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia, Toyota 86 Championship, Central Muscle Cars and NZ Formula Ford.
Supercars will again compete for the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy, named after the late Kiwi Supercars Hall of Fame inductee who contested 113 rounds and 284 races in his decorated career.
