Tom Alexander has been confirmed to race in round two of the Castrol Toyota Racing Series at Hampton Downs, Velocity News has learnt.
His late addition takes the grid up to seven drivers for this weekend’s two races, which will be run on the shorter Hampton Downs national circuit.
The 26-year-old raced in last week’s 66th New Zealand Grand Prix where he finished 11th. His highlight, however, was being able to be on the same grid as his mentor Ken Smith for Smith’s 50th Grand Prix start.
Alexander is a diverse racer who brings a wealth of racing experience despite essentially being a rookie in the category.
Starting back in 2011, Alexander kicked off his single-seater career with two seasons in the national Formula Ford championship.
He then ran against Smith in cars such as a 1992 Formula 3 car and a later Swift Formula Atlantic car.
This historic theme continued with a stint in Formula 5000. He also competed in the inaugural S5000 event at Sandown in Australia.
Alexander was also a regular tester for Toyota during the development of the current-spec FT60 car.
To date, Alexander is only confirmed for this weekend’s second round, with no discussion on whether he will be on the grid for the series finale at Manfeild.
