Ken Smith is recovering from a fall that saw him break multiple ribs.
Smith fell from a ladder last week, the 80-year-old was originally thought to have broken two ribs, as well as punctured a lung.
Though it has since been found that Smith has seven broken ribs, including two which have broken in two places.
Smith is a legend of New Zealand Motorsport, taking three wins at the New Zealand Grand Prix, 1976, 1990, and 2004.
His three wins put Smith alongside Sir Jack Brabham, Stirling Moss, Craig Baird and Nick Cassidy, the only other drivers to take three NZGP wins.
Smith competed in his 50th NZGP in 2021, finishing 15th in the race which was won by 2021 Supercars Championship winner Shane van Gisbergen.
The NZGP is scheduled for the 13th of February at Hampton Downs.
