The Dutch, Canadian and Singapore Grands Prix are all facing cancellation after being omitted from the latest version of the 2020 Formula One World Championship schedule.
So far, only the Australian, Monaco and French events have been officially cancelled, though given the situation surrounding the pandemic and the condensed calendar for the remainder of the year, further cancellations don’t come as too much of a surprise.
F1 is adjusting plans on a regular basis, based on local regulations in race hosting countries, including bans on major events which would curtail any efforts to stage a Grand Prix.
Some tracks are expected to be paid for a behind-closed-doors race, while other races would still be expected to pay at least some portion of the initial fee.
Hockenheim is standing by as an alternative circuit should another fall by the wayside. It is understood that it could replace Silverstone if no deal can be brokered with the British GP venue.
Dutch GP organisers have explicitly stated they would not host a race without fans and given the situation surrounding the pandemic, it is look more and more likely the Zandvoort circuit will have to wait another year for its return to F1.
According to sources, the potential revised calendar could see 19 races still run this year. Although, F1 CEO Chase Carey is only expecting to run 15-18 events.
