The dates for the return of Supercars to New Zealand will be revealed at an event on Thursday, September 21, at the Te Atea space in Taupo.
The launch is open to the public from 3 pm to 5 pm, with the date and race format for next year’s event at Taupo International Motorsport Park to be confirmed.
There will also be activities and games for adults and children alike, as well as giveaways, racing simulators, a display Supercar, the Tim Timber mascot and The Rock radio crew with their ‘Rock Toss’ game. There will also be an opportunity to score tickets to next year’s event.
It’s a welcome return of the series to New Zealand, having missed out on a 2023 round following the closure of Pukekohe Park Raceway.
Their return to New Zealand was announced last month following confirmation that New Zealand Major Events and Taupo District Council have endorsed the round.
“New Zealand Major Events has supported previous Supercars events in New Zealand and has liaised with event organisers to consider how the government could support the event returning to New Zealand since the final Supercars event at Pukekohe in 2022,” Major Events Manager Kylie Hawker-Green said in a message to Velocity News.
“The government has approved a three-year investment. Investment in any future iterations beyond 2026 will need to be assessed by New Zealand Major Events. Any assessment would consider a review of the 2024-2026 event outcomes.”
