Shane van Gisbergen has qualified 23rd for this morning’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Phoenix Raceway.
The three-time Supercars champion was the eighth driver to take to the one-mile, low-banked tri-oval and set a lap of 28.120 seconds to provisionally sit second, 0.117 seconds off Sam Meyer’s early benchmark.
Van Gisbergen would drop down the order as later times came in, finishing the session deep in the pack.
The Kiwi’s Kaulig Racing teammate AJ Allmendinger qualified 10th, while Cole Custer claimed his second pole in as many weekends.
Championship leader Austin Hill will start from 15th.
