Shane van Gisbergen has qualified 18th for tomorrow’s Xfinity Series race in his maiden outing at Talladega in Alabama.
The Kiwi managed a best lap of 53.388 seconds on the famed Superspeedway to provisionally place in the top three before a host of late runners bettered his time.
In an extremely tight session, van Gisbergen would have qualified sixth and progressed to the second round of qualifying had he gone just two-tenths faster.
Austin Hill, a two-time race-winner in 2024, qualified top in both rounds to claim the pole from rookie Jesse Love.
Josh Williams’s impressive run of form shows no sign of slowing, with the #11 qualifying as the fastest Kaulig Racing entry in ninth, while AJ Allmendinger was 14th.
Tomorrow’s Xfinity Series race begins at 8.00 am NZST and will be shown live on ThreeNow.
Before that, van Gisbergen will qualify for his maiden NASCAR Cup Series oval race at 2.30 am.
