Shane van Gisbergen will be kept busy at Talladega Superspeedway this weekend as he runs double duties in the NASCAR Cup and the Xfinity Series.
It will be the three-time Supercars champion’s first race at the famed 4.281 km track, the longest on the NASCAR calendar. It is also his first oval outing in the Cup Series.
“The Cup car at Talladega is going to be a massive challenge for me, but that’s what I’m here for, to get out of my comfort zone and try new things,” he said.
His #16 Cup Series Chevrolet and #97 Xfinity Series entry are running a unique Wendy’s livery for the weekend.
“It’s really cool to have Wendy’s Hot & Crispy Fries and Frosty on board both of our Chevrolets this weekend,” he added. “I’m looking forward to a fun and exciting Cup race on Sunday.”
Van Gisbergen currently sits 15th in the Xfinity Series standings, achieving top-ten finishes in three of this season’s eight races. He is only 25 points outside the top ten.
On his Xfinity Series outing, he added, “I’m looking forward to getting to Talladega and making another Superspeedway start.”
“The race should be exciting for all the fans on Saturday.”
Xfinity Series qualifying begins at 9.30 am on Saturday (NZST), before Cup Series qualifying at 2.30 am on Sunday.
The races will be shown live on ThreeNow, with the Xfinity Series at 8.00 am on Sunday and the Cup Series at 7.00 am on Monday.
