Shane Van Gisbergen will start on pole in Race 19 this afternoon, after a blistering second and third sector saw him top Will Davison’s Top 10 Shootout time by .004 of a second. It was a rocky first sector for the kiwi championship leader which saw him down by two tenths to the Shell V-Power driver, but he recovered to put his Red Bull Racing Commodore at the front of the grid.
The shootout saw the top three drivers finish within .03 of a second of each other, with Cam Waters .025 behind Davison.
It was a strong showing from Andre Heimgartner, who will start on the second row after finishing fourth.
Grip proved to be challenging for drivers following the gap between qualifying and the shootout, with understeer apparent in many of the early runs.
The timed qualifying saw kiwis Van Gisbergen and Heimgartner both qualify for the Top 10 Shootout, as well as Shell V-Power drivers, Davison and Anton de Pasquale, who lead the Constructors Championship.
The remainder of the top 10 were filled out by Waters, who set the fastest time in the initial timed qualifying session, Jack Le Brocq, Chaz Mostert, Red Bull youngster Broc Feeney, Scott Pye and Tim Slade.
David Reynolds was unlucky 11th, missing out by .05 of a second.
Chris Pither will start from the back of the grid, only managing the 25th fastest time
