An additional 10 races across 13 rounds, with 1,200km more racing action. Supercars have announced their racing formats for the 2025 season and confirmed the introduction of a Finals Series to determine the champion.
The season begins with an eight-round Sprint Cup, which features 25 races. The Sprint Cup will be awarded to the top-performing driver, who will gain automatic entry into the Finals Series.
The Sydney, Melbourne and Townsville Sprint Cup events will also feature Friday racing.
The Enduro Cup returns for the first time since 2019, and is comprised of two rounds; The Bend 500, and the Bathurst 1000.
After Bathurst, the Enduro Cup Champion will be crowned and receive automatic entry into the finals.
The ten highest point-scorers from the first 27 races, including the Sprint Cup and Enduro Cup winners, will automatically qualify for the Finals Series.
Points are reset to 3000 for all ten final’s contenders, with the bottom three eliminated after the Gold Coast 500. Race winners automatically qualify for the next round of the finals.
Driver’s points are reset to 4000 for the Sandown 500 Finals round, which is made up of two 250km races, where, if a race winner is a finalist, they receive automatic promotion to the season-finale title showdown.
Bonus points will be applied following the event, and once again, the bottom three drivers will be eliminated, leaving the top four to battle it out in the final round.
Points for the final four are reset to 5000 at the Adelaide 500, with the champion to be determined across three races– one 100km on Friday, one 250km on Saturday and the final 250km race of the year on Sunday afternoon, with bonus points applied based on previous results.
Those who have not qualified for the playoffs or are eliminated from contention on the Gold Coast or at Sandown will continue to compete within the field for individual victories, akin to NASCAR’s playoff system.
As per race formats, the Sydney season-opener and Townsville Sprint Cup events will feature a 100km race on Friday, before 200km races on each of Saturday and Sunday.
The Australian Grand Prix round remains as four races, with one on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Super400 events, including the Taupo round, have increased to 440kms of racing, with two 120km races on Saturday and a longer 200km race on Sunday, instead of two 200km outings.
This format applies in Taupo, Tasmania, Perth, Darwin, and Queensland Raceway.
For the Enduro Cup, The Bend 500 runs a single 500km race, while the Bathurst 1000 remains the same.
The Gold Coast and Sandown Finals Series weekends feature two 250km races, before the season finale in Adelaide, which is comprised of a 100km Sprint on Friday before two 250km races over the following days.
Top Ten Shootouts will feature at every round, except Melbourne, where time qualifying sessions remain.
