The 2020 Super Formula season will finish in late December according to a draft calendar that has been circulated.
The opening four rounds of the championship were postponed due to the ongoing pandemic, and teams were informed that the revised calendar could consequently stretch into December.
The draft calendar shows that the final two rounds will be held in December, marking the first time since 1987 that Japan’s premier open-wheel championship will finish in that month.
Motegi is set to host the season-opener on August 30 before heading to Okayama for the second round on September 27. Sugo will then host the third round on October 17-18 before heading to Autopolis on November 14-15.
The Suzuka double-header will be held on December 5-6, while Fuji will host the season finale on December 20.
It remains unclear whether spectators will be allowed to attend, although the Motegi season-opener falls two weeks before SUPER GT’s race, which will be held behind closed doors.
Three drivers on the 2020 grid – Juri Vips, Tatiana Calderon, and Charles Milesi – are currently outside of Japan and face potential obstacles in re-entering the country for the start of the season in August.
