Promotors at Speed Works Events have confirmed that the next round of its schedule at Pukekohe Raceway has been postponed as a result of Auckland’s switch to Alert Level 3 earlier today.
Following the discovery of a community Covid-19 case with unknown origins, the New Zealand Government announced last night that Auckland would be moving into Alert Level 3 lockdown restrictions for seven days — starting at 6.00am earlier today and subsequently overlapping with next weekend’s ’round six’ March 6-7 Pukekohe meeting.
“Unfortunately Pukekohe falls in the Level 3 alert zone and we must postpone the race meeting next weekend,” said Speed Works Events in an online statement. “We are already looking at an alternative date for the near future and we will send out a further communication to competitors later today.
“If you have bought tickets these will be honoured for meeting on the revised date or a full refund can be provided. Most importantly – stay safe everyone!”
The event was set to host the penultimate round of both the Best Bars Toyota 86 Series and the Napa Central Muscle Cars. The Pirelli Porsche Championship, the Nexen Tyre Mazda series, the Ryco 24.7 V8 utes, Hi-Q Components Formula First, MATOS Formula Open, Formula Ford, and the Speed Works Rush Hour.
In contrast to some other large events that have been forced to cancel due to the news, Speed Works is set to stage the nine-class meeting on a new date.
As it stands, the series finale’s for both the 86 and muscle car series’ are set to take place at Taupo’s Bruce McLaren Motorsport Park on March 26-28.
