Louis Sharp has extended his lead atop the British Formula 4 standings having finished fourth in both overnight races at Brands Hatch following a tough opener that ended in the gravel trap the day prior.
Tricky conditions plagued the Kiwi’s qualifying run, resulting red flags and strategy only seeing him able to qualify ninth for the opener.
As expected, Sharp made quick progress in Race 1 and had moved up to third before a red flag was called for following an incident further back in the field. Off the restart he kept pace with the leaders before spinning at Druids and beaching in the gravel, effectively ending his race.
A reverse grid start greeted competitors for Race 2, Sharp muscling his way forward from seventh to finish fourth with Rodin Carlin teammate Dion Gowda awarded the win after Deagen Fairclough was demoted two positions for an illegal Lap 1 overtake.
It was Higgins who took a lights-to-flag victory in Race 3, jumping to second in the standings and looking like a real contender in the race for the title. Sharp was once again fourth, extending his championship lead to 13 points despite not featuring on the podium and failing to finish Race 1.
British Formula 4 returns on May 20-21 with a further three races at Snetterton.
