Shane van Gisbergen chased down Anton De Pasquale to win the first race of the weekend in Perth.
De Pasquale took the lead early in the race, leading through the first stage until he made his pitstop.
Cam Waters who ran second through the early portion of the race was the first of the leaders to pit, attempting to undercut De Pasquale, though De Pasquale, would regain the lead after his stop, putting Waters back to second.
Van Gisbergen opted to run longer on the first stint, making the tyres last well past the halfway mark in the race, holding the lead after De Pasquale and Waters pitted.
While SVG was still in the lead of the race, De Pasquale was held up behind Bryce Fullwood, who would let the pair past though, Waters had closed the gap to the Shell V-Power driver.
Van Gisbergen made his stop on lap 32 rejoining in third, though on newer tyres than the two ahead of him.
The Kiwi made the most of the better grip, passing Waters for second a few laps after the stop, then taking the lead of the race on lap 43 of the race, building a 2.3-second lead by the end of the race.
Andre Heimgartner had an awkward moment as Will Davison rejoined after his pit stop, but held on to finish 10th.
Chris Pither had a tough start to the race, having an incident with Fullwood, which saw him spin on the opening lap, Fullwood earned a 15-second penalty for the contact. Pither went on to finish the race in 24th.
