HMD Motorsports has just announced that 19-year-old Kiwi Liam Sceats will join the team for the upcoming INDY NXT race at St. Petersburg.
Sceats, a winner in the USF Pro Championship program in 2024, will debut in the highly competitive series as part of HMD Motorsports’ impressive roster of drivers, completing a nine-driver program to kick off the season.
The 2025 season marks an exciting new chapter for Sceats, who has completed tests with HMD Motorsports at tracks including the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Barber Motorsports Park, and most recently, the Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca.
With strong performances during these sessions, Sceats has proven himself a promising talent and is eager to showcase his skills on the Streets of St. Petersburg.
“I’m incredibly excited to join HMD Motorsports for my first race in the INDY NXT,” explained Sceats.
“The team has been fantastic in supporting my development, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to compete at such a high level. While I am pushing hard off the track to continue the evolution of my partner program, my full focus is on St. Pete as it quickly approaches. I can’t wait to get started.”

HMD Motorsports has established itself as a powerhouse in INDY NXT and has a proven track record of nurturing young talent. The team’s experience and commitment to excellence make it the ideal environment for Sceats as he takes the next step in his racing career.
“We are thrilled to welcome Liam to the HMD Motorsports family,” added Team President Mike Maurini. “Liam is one of the hardest working drivers I have ever met behind the scenes putting together partner programs and has shown incredible potential during his on-track test days.
With track knowledge in St. Pete, we’re confident he’ll be a strong contender and look forward to seeing what he can do behind the wheel.”
The INDY NXT series kicks off its 2025 season at the St. Petersburg Grand Prix on February 28-March 2, where Sceats will join fellow Kiwi Callum Hedge for the opening round of the series.
