Over the weekend, New Zealand hillclimb and rally legend Rod Millen returned to the slopes of Pikes Peak for the 100th running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb event.
Millen dusted off an old friend for the occasion in the form of his iconic Toyota Tacoma he last drove up the hill in 2000.
A lot has changed in the last 20 years including the now paved surface which was formerly dirt.
The same mid-mounted 2.1-litre turbocharged four-cylinder which produces 745kW (1000hp) was used in the Tacoma during Millen’s 2022 exhibition run but not before a visit to the dyno and multiple shakedown runs were conducted to ensure the truck’s readiness.
When it came time to head up the hill, poor visibility in the form of thick fog masked each bend. But that didn’t deter the Kiwi from giving the Tacoma a good thrashing with Millen even kicking the tail out under braking at the 2:45 mark.
