Last year, Peugeot revealed its wingless entry into the Hypercar category in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) with the car finally making its debut at the 6 Hours of Monza last weekend.
Peugeot entered two 9X8 cars into the endurance race with the #93 car having to retire in the first half due to electrical gremlins.
The remaining #94 9X8 driven by James Rossiter, Loic Duval and Gustavo Menezes went on to finish fourth out of the five Hypercar entries.
The trio completed 169 laps around the Italian circuit, albeit facing their own reliability issues throughout the race, forcing the car into the pits for some time.
However, Peugeot Sport’s goal this weekend wasn’t about achieving top results.
Considering this was the team’s first outing, Peugeot needed to ensure team members functioned well together while gaining valuable hours of race testing with the 9X8 itself.
Following the 6 Hours of Monza, the 9X8 will compete in the remaining two rounds of the 2022 WEC season before it takes on a full season of racing next year.
A 24 Hours of Le Mans win will be in the French team’s sights next year who hope to add to the previous wins they scored with the 905 in the early nineties and 908 in the late 2000s.
We will next see the car at the 6 Hours of Fuji in September.
