New Zealand rally great Hayden Paddon has today confirmed he will compete in Teretonga’s round of the Super Sprint MotorSport New Zealand Championship.
Paddon will drive a Hyundai i30 N TCR in the three-race Southern Sprint Allcomers category at the Invercargill circuit over January 20-22.
It starts off what’s expected to be a busy year for Paddon, however most his time will be spend on dirt rather than track.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” said the 2022 Rally New Zealand WRC2 winner.
“It will be good to drive Teretonga in a car I know well.
“While I have no expectations, any opportunity I get to drive competitively I’ll jump at.”
Local businessman Scott O’Donnell owns the car and has helped ensure the drive happens.
“It’s good to get Hayden back in the TCR – a car he previously owned,” O’Donnell says.
“He will put on a good show so is an opportunity for us to showcase what’s happening in this part of the world. Teretonga has had a big rebuild so the television coverage puts what we’ve done on show.
“Hayden’s car livery allows us to promote the Invercargill Central development and the 1-2 April George Begg festival – our version of Goodwood. We want to bring all of New Zealand to Invercargill for that weekend.”
The opportunity to see Paddon in action on Teretonga adds further flair to an event which is already shaping up as one not to be missed.
In addition to Paddon’s cameo, the newly-reclassified Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Championship are the feature of the weekend whilst Toyota 86 will also thrill as they have in past.
To sweeten the deal, live coverage of the race weekend will be shown on Sky Sports in New Zealand. It will also be available on Foxtel and Kayo Sports in Australia.
Tickets for the event are also available on Ticket Fairy.
