The North Island Endurance Series, run by NIERDC, was censured and fined last Friday by an MSNZ Judicial Hearing, following a review of the 3-hour results of the last round of the 2022 Series held at Hampton Downs. Velocity News understand that NIERDC has since appealed the findings of the Judicial Hearing, as they claim the findings are incorrect.
When asked for comment, the outgoing President and founder of NIERDC David Dovey said, “The Clubs management committee is most unhappy with the decision to criticise its action’s at the recent 3rd, and final round of 2022 held at Hampton Downs, which saw Greg Murphy and Tom Alexander win the 3-hour race”.
“We, NIERDC, followed due process to the letter of the National Sporting Code. Several parties had a right to protest the result to the Stewards of the meeting within the prescribed 30-minute period but chose not to. Instead, MSNZ agreed to review the matter by way of a Judicial Hearing, which has now ordered the club to overturn the declared race result in favour of the Pedersen entry”.
“MSNZ’s Judicial Hearing not only fined and criticised the Club but also censored the COC. Everybody makes mistakes, but in this case, it’s MSNZ who have shot themselves in the foot”.
“What rankles with me is that the Club of its own volition gave MSNZ the opportunity to decree a winner, following acrimonious accusations concerning the legality of the Bulletin that gave rise to two elite drivers competing in car 51 in that race. We are a sanctioned series, and as such, our rules and regulation have to be signed off by MSNZ; however, they declined to rule and kicked the decision back to the Club to make, which we did. Then they grant leave to have the result reviewed by a Judicial Hearing! Something is not right here.”
“It’s not the Club or the COC to blame, and we take issue with that”.
“I am personally disappointed because, after ten years of hard graft by my wife, Karen, Kel Mcbeth and myself, we are handing over the reins of the NIERDC executive to new blood and leaving the Club in excellent financial health and spirit; I can’t thank the incumbent Committee enough for the support they have given Karen and myself, and that the way I want to leave it, not with some stigma hanging over its head.”
