Tony Quinn and Kiwi talent Kaleb Ngatoa joined forces in GT4 Australia at Queensland Raceway over the weekend, with the duo driving to round success in the #101 Queensland Raceway Porsche Cayman 718.
Having qualified on the third row, the pair drove to second in Friday’s 60-minute opener after the #26 Verve Racing BMW F82 M4 was stung with a 20-second penalty post-race.
Quinn and Ngatoa would improve on their result in Saturday’s famous “Fight in the Night” enduro, taking overall GT4 victory after the first car across the line, being the #56 Porsche Cayman 718 of Lachlan Mineeff and Shane Smollen was stung with a 5-second penalty post-race.
They then finished second in the weekend’s finale, overcome by the Nash Morris and Mark Griffith Mercedes AMG in the closing stages after Quinn had taken the lead with eight laps to go.
“It was all good this weekend. I thought it was a real test for everybody – the night stuff is a real different element to the competition, and I think everyone did well to get through it,” Quinn said.
“It is full credit to all the guys; it was enjoyable to race against them. Everyone did their own thing, and it was good.”
“It was a good weekend. I really enjoyed racing in the night, that was my first proper night race, and I was happy to do a good job out there,” Ngatoa added.
“Tony did some awesome stints, and I just had to keep it on the track and finish it off, which was good. If the opportunity comes, I would love to come back, I really enjoyed myself. Thank you to Tony and Queensland Raceway for the good event.
“It was an awesome experience, and I can’t thank Tony enough for giving me the opportunity to race with him and prove we still have it,” Ngatoa added in a message to Velocity News.
The victory and two runner-up results saw the duo take round honours with 134 points, eight more than Smollen and Mineeff.
