Greg Murphy has claimed race honours in Race 2 of the Archibolds Historic Tour Cars at Pukekohe today after an entertaining battle with Race 1 winner Michael Lyons.
As was the same in Race 1, Murphy took the lead and quickly built time over Lyons, only for the 1998 Nissan Primera ex-touring car to make up time and retake the race lead at the hairpin in the race middle stages.
Unlike the first race, however, Lyons was unable to pull away which saw Murphy battle for the lead over the closing stages of the event. He managed to finally get the move done on the last lap, a drag for the line seeing the Sierra pip the Primera by .2 of a second, the same margin in which Lyons won in Race 1.
Drizzle that has hung over Pukekohe all day is seeing the start of a dry-line forming, with the wet areas on track proving difficult for a number of competitors. Dennis Ham and Warren Dunn were two of the unlucky ones caught out by the conditions, with spins relegating them to the rear of the field.
Stu Rogers once again impressed in his Nissan Skyline, the pace of the car setting him up for his second third place result of the weekend, ahead of Brett Stevens the second time in a row.
Veteran Steven Richards rounded out the top five, while iconic New Zealand racer Paul Radisich took to the track to finish 23rd after missing Race 1.
John Bowe was not on the start of Race 2 either, mechanical difficulties ruling him out of the days racing.
