Kiwi driver Mitch Evans (Jaguar TCS Racing) has come home in third place in round 12 of the New York City E-Prix, following Nick Cassidy’s race 11 win over the weekend. Evans started the race sixth.
Antonio Felix da Costa led the entirety of the 45 minute race, crossing the line in first after starting on pole.
Da Costa fended off Alexander Sims early on before Vandoorne applied the pressure later in the race.
Vandoorne’s second spot will likely be more than enough for one of Formula E’s most consistent scorers to leave the Big Apple with a smile on his face.
Mitch Evans wound up third, holding on to a mid-race half-spin as he tried to break into the top three by Alexander Sims (Mahindra Racing).
The Jaguar TCS Racing driver hit a bump in the Turn 6 braking zone and caught a huge sideways slide to keep it out of the wall and drop only to fifth.
By the chequered flag he’d fought his way back to third and silverware, with Sims following home in fourth for Mahindra Racing.
Sam Bird’s scrap to fifth position from 16th on the grid left the Jaguar garage in raptures and reignited their Teams’ World Championship push.
With just four rounds to come, Vandoorne is back at the top of the Drivers’ World Championship, with an 11-point margin to prior leader Mortara.
Evans is five points further back in third with Jean-Eric Vergne unable to score again, the Frenchman sits 27 points shy of the top.
Round 13 and 14 of the FIA Formula E championship will get underway on July 30 and 31.
