Michigan International Speedway will be the sole venue for tonight’s ninth round of the BP Supercars All Star Eseries with the two-mile oval having topped a recent driver poll.
Michigan was already set to stage the night’s opening event but a vote between Laguna Seca, Road America, Le Mans or to stay at Michigan was put to the drivers earlier in the week.
The decision to remain in the Great Lake State follows after the success of oval racing at Charlotte in round seven.
At the conclusion of the poll Laguna Seca claimed the runners up spot with eight votes, five for Le Mans, while Brad Jones Racing’s Nick Percat was the sole driver in support for a race at Road America.
Triple Eight’s Shane Van Gisbergen leads the standings heading into the penultimate round, with Scott McLaughlin and Cameron Waters both snapping on the #97’s heels for the title lead.
Next week’s finale sees the field return to Australia with races at Bathurst and the now defunct Oran Park Raceway which hosted its final Supercars race back in 2008.
Qualifying will get underway from 8 pm NZT on Sky Sports 5 and via the official Supercars Facebook page.
