The wildest iteration yet of the track-focused Mercedes-AMG GT R PRO will soon be available in New Zealand, in limited supply.
A new AMG coil-over suspension system offers more adjustability to tailor the GT R PRO’s set-up to a particular circuit. The front axle is fitted with an adjustable torsion bar made of lightweight carbon-fibre. A carbon-fibre shear panel in the rear underbody also contributes to the improved handling and electronically controlled dynamic engine and transmission mounts from the GT R have been re-tuned to further increase agility.
The GT R PRO also includes the Track Package, comprising a bolted steel roll cage and two rear braces and four-point safety harnesses for driver and front passenger. These improvements proved worthwhile when the German road missile lapped the fearsome Nürburgring in just 7 minutes and 4.6 seconds – more than six seconds faster than the GT R on which it is based.
The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that has been carried over from the standard GT R produces 430kW and 700Nm of torque. Just two GT R PRO’s will be priced at $420,000 each and will be available exclusively from AMG Performance Centres in Auckland and Christchurch.
