Scott McLaughlin recently got back in touch with an old friend in the form of his 2018 Supercars championship winning Ford Falcon FG X.
The car is currently on its way to the Penske Racing Museum in Phoenix where it will be displayed in its newly restored 2018 Shell V-Power Racing Team Livery. McLaughlin was reunited with the car on its travels.
The Kiwi now competes in the IndyCar series for Team Penske who he raced for in Supercars from 2017 with the Falcon, winning eight races throughout his first season with the team.
During that same year, he set a record-breaking 2:03.8 lap around Bathurst.
In 2018, McLaughlin won nine races and his first Supercars championship title with the car. He would later go on to secure two more drivers’ titles with DJR Team Penske in 2019 and 2020.
Overall, he ended up winning 17 races and scored 29 pole positions with the #17 Falcon.
As Supercars made the shift to the Ford Mustang in 2019, McLaughlin expressed his sadness upon leaving the Falcon platform.
“It’s quite sad,” he said speaking with V8 Sleuth back in 2018.
“I probably won’t get back in that thing for a while at least.
“She’s been a good girl. The amount of wins and poles we’ve had, we’ve added a few stickers to the door!”
The car itself features a naturally aspirated fuel-injected 5-litre V8 pushing out approximately 480kW of power and can achieve a 0 to 100kp/h run in just 3.4 seconds.
Power is sent through a rear-mounted six-speed sequential transaxle accompanied by an integrated spool differential.
McLaughlin currently sits sixth in the IndyCar championship with just three races to go before the 2022 season concludes.
