Matthew Payne gained six places to take a fifth-place finish in the final Super2 race of the season, despite a series of safety cars the saw the race shortened.
Payne got a strong start gaining four places in the first half of the opening lap before the safety car was deployed.
MW Motorsport teammates Tyler Everingham and Jayden Ojeda made contact heading into the first corner on the opening lap bringing out the first safety car, putting both out of the race and sealing the championship win for Broc Feeney.
Payne took advantage of the field bunched back up, to gain sixth place.
Soon after, Payne gained another position, passing Matt McLean to move into fifth, with the second safety car coming out moments later, for Jaylyn Robotham, who was beached in the gravel trap at the final corner.
The race got back underway only for the third safety car to come out shortly after, for an incident that saw Steven Page crash heavily at the top of the mountain.
The race finished three laps early under safety car conditions. Sealing the race win for Jordan Boys, with Feeney taking second place.
Payne wouldn’t get the chance to continue moving through the field, taking fifth place after starting in 11th.
