Toyota Gazoo Racing New Zealand has announced the Best Bars Toyota 86 championship prize pool for the 2021-’22 championship.
This season sees the category offering an incredible line-up of prizes, with a test drive in one of Triple Eight Engineering’s Supercars entries awarded to the championship winner, as well as two seats in the 2022 Australian Toyota 86 Series race at Bathurst.
According to Toyota Gazoo Racing New Zealand, this is the largest prize pool ever seen in the country, with drivers also fighting for their piece of a $75,000 prize pool to be awarded to the top five drivers.
The category is expected to have at least 22 entries in the upcoming season, which will see the series return to the South Island.
“We had a fantastic prize package last year and have had for several seasons but the 2021-2022 offering is the most impressive so far and there’s never been anything like it in the sport in New Zealand,” Category Manager Geoff Short said.
“With the championship likely to be closely fought, an overwhelming majority of the field will have a chance to be one of the winners, whether that’s as a top-five championship contender, a master or a rookie. It all works nicely to coincide with our biggest ever field in the championship’s history too.
“With the confirmation of our prize package, a return to the South Island and the roll out of our driver announcements, we think there will be a huge amount of interest not only in this next season but also beyond that.
“We’ve been working hard to make this championship the best saloon car series in New Zealand for up and coming and seasoned racers alike and we’re delighted with how the coming season is shaping up.”
The 2021-’22 series is set to get underway at Hampton Downs 12-14 November.
