Rodin Motorsport’s Louis Sharp has begun his 2024 GB3 Championship campaign by topping qualifying and converting the pole to race victory at Oulton Park.
The British F4 champion held off a race-long challenge from JHR Devlopments’ John Bennett for the win, with Rodin teammate Ugo Ugochukwu completing the podium.
Sharp’s top qualifying effort of 1:29.292 was nearly three-tenths faster than Bennett’s to earn pole.
The Kiwi got away well and led off the line, running the inside line at Turn 1 and maintaining the lead as his rival tried to go around the outside.
Bennett attempted to take the position again at the Cascades, but the Kiwi held firm at the front as a caution was called when James Hedley and Aditya Kulkarni came together at the back of the pack.
Sharp controlled the restart well and gradually increased his advantage on the run to the checkered flag, winning by 1.4 seconds.
Ugochukwi finished a further two seconds behind in third, holding off a strong challenge from 2024 Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Championship race winner Gerrard Xie.
Oulton Park’s proceedings take a break over Easter Sunday, with the action resuming at 10.30 pm on Monday (NZ time).
The grid for Race 2 is set based on a competitor’s second-fastest lap in qualifying, seeing Sharp again start from pole.
Race 3, at 2.45 am on Tuesday, features a reverse top-12 grid based on qualifying results.
All action will be streamed live on MSV TV’s YouTube channel.
