Catch all the live action from WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for round three of the 2KCUP Sunday iRacing league here on Velocity News.
Witness a star-studded line-up featuring ex-Formula One driver and World Endurance Champion Brendon Hartley, 2016 Supercars Champion Shane Van Gisbergen and NZGP and TRS champion Liam Lawson battle out amongst some of the nation’s best homegrown talent.
What began two weeks ago as a means to keep 2KCUP competitors staying in contact amid the covid-19 lockdown has now turned into one of New Zealand’s most impressive grids.
Series organisers James Watson and Mark Mallard admit they have been blown away with the reception the online format has received.
“It’s been amazing, we picked the MX5 as it is comparable to a real 2KCUP car, thinking only 2KCUP drivers would be interested. 2 weeks on the league is up to 150 registered competitors and nearly all the top series in NZ are being represented,” said Mallard
“With so many competitive drivers we had to run a pre-qualifier on Saturday just so we could sort out the grids for Sunday. With 3 grids this weekend and more coming in future weeks everyone has a place to race against drivers of their own levels, just like in the real world 2KCUP.”
