Lawson qualified a disappointing 10th at Zolder circuit in Belgium early afternoon European time.
This is the young Kiwi’s lowest qualifying position so far after a great start to the season.
He put down a time of 1.27.385 only 3 tenths off the fastest time of 1.27.054.
Lawson’s Ferrari will be placed on the fifth row of the grid alongside Nico Muller in his Team Rosberg Audi.
Teammate, current RedBull reserve driver, Alexander Albon was able to put together a slightly better lap to qualify 4th.
But the current championship leader, South African, Kelvin Van der Linde clinched pole for the second time this season.
Liam will have a tough race 1 ahead due the tight and difficult overtaking nature of Zolder. But he will be hoping to continue his fantastic first ever campaign in the DTM series.
So, we are hoping for some overtaking brilliance and a possible better grid position for race 2 on Sunday. As we have all seen before, this is never impossible for Lawson but only time will tell.
There is a chance of rain for both the race later today and the second race on Sunday which could spice things up a bit.
Here are the top 10 qualifiers:
