New Zealander Brendon Leitch has finished on the overall podium in the first race of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe season at Paul Ricard, storming from 10th on the grid to finish third.
Competing for Leipert Motorsport, Leitch is a solo entry in this year’s series, driving the #86 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2. The opening round of the competition boasted a grid of an impressive 48 cars, highlighting the Kiwi’s expertise, having topped 45 of those entries.
The Kiwi was quick to make up ground come race time before hunting down and passing Pro-Am competitors Nigel Schoonderwoerd and Alex Au in the closing stages to earn third overall and third in the Pro class.
VS Racing’s Mattia Michelotto and Gilles Stadsbader were the race winners, storming to a five-second victory over Oregon Team’s Sebastian Balthasar and Marzio Moretti.
It’s a solid start to the season for Leitch, who will race the second and final 50-minute race of the opening round starting from sixth in class.
Race 2 gets underway at 8.05 pm this evening and will be shown live on the Lamborghini Squadra Corse YouTube channel.
