Brendon Leitch is looking for wins and podiums at the final two rounds of the 2023/24 Asian Le Mans Series this weekend at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
The opening three rounds continued to prove frustrating for Leitch and his Leipert Motorsport team, and they now want to show the actual speed that they are capable of on track.
“Our objective is simple,” commented Leitch. “We want two good results, so we need to finish both races and finish as high as possible, even a win.”
The Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia hosted the first two of the five-race series, which saw Leitch and teammates top AM (Amateur) driver Gabriel Rindone and Lamborghini factory driver Marco Mapelli compete in a factory-supported Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2.
Fifth place in a rain-interrupted first race was followed by an unfortunate retirement out of the final four-hour race on Sunday.
The single round at the Dubai Autodrome Circuit in the UAE last weekend saw the team retire early after their Lamborghini got caught up in an opening lap incident.
“It was unfortunate,” said Leitch. We tried to continue on with a damaged car and in the end stopped to fix it losing three laps and eventually retired from the round.”
Leitch is upbeat heading to Abu Dhabi.
“Last year, we got two podiums, so the circuit has been good to us. It’s my favourite track in the world. It is really fast with long straights, heavy braking, and technical sections, particularly in the first sector when we are really close to the walls.
“Most of the racing will be in the dark under lights, so it is spectacular.”
Practice takes place on Friday with a single qualifying session on Saturday where the fastest lap will determine the grid spot for Round 4 and the second fastest lap the grid spot for Round 5.
Round 4 takes place on Saturday afternoon with Round 5 on Sunday. Qualifying and both races will be streamed live on motorsport.tv.
