Jaxon Evans is living out a boyhood dream this weekend when he lines up for the start of his first Le Mans 24 Hour.
The Kiwi Porsche driver has competed in a range of GT and single-make championships, namely the Porsche Supercup and Carrera Cup.
However, he had yet to take on Le Mans until this weekend.
The famed twice-around-the-clock endurance race is one of the most challenging GT events on the annual calendar.
For Evans, to race in the 24 Hour classic is achieving a career ambition.
“This a dream come true for me,” Evans said.
“[Le Mans is] something a lot of drivers, specifically sports car drivers, dream of participating in.
“[It is] something we’ve been working toward from day one of my racing career, so really looking forward to the opportunity.”
Evans is racing with the Dempsey-Proton team in a Porsche 911 RSR for the race.
Team-owner Christian Reid and Evans’ best friend Matt Campbell will be joining the Kiwi.
The trio are in the GTE-Am class and qualified 12th in class this morning.
“To be doing it with a team like Dempsey-Proton Racing is pretty special,” Evans said.
“Teaming up with two previous winners in Christian Reid and Matt Campbell, my housemate, best mate and Porsche factory driver is pretty special.
“It’s a great line-up and I think we have a great shot if all things go our way.”
Despite whatever happens during the race, Evans is eager to make the most of the opportunity.
“I’m really happy to be here and making the most of the experience.
“We had the test day on Sunday, which was my first laps here in the RSR, and I was lucky enough to race the Cup Car here.
“So, it isn’t completely new to me, but the RSR is a very different machine, and it’s a very different environment in the way the teams work.
“Excited to be here and proud and thankful to everyone around me who has helped me to get to this stage, so hoping to do them proud when we’re on track.”
The 24 Hours of Le Mans begins at 2 am on Sunday NZT.
