Jack Le Brocq has converted pole position to victory in this evening’s race at Hidden Valley Raceway in Darwin, pulling clear of second-placed Andre Heimgartner for Matt Stone Racing’s maiden win.
Heimgartner was a comfortable second, some seven seconds ahead of Broc Feeney, whose third place finish means he has placed on each step of the podium this weekend
A late charge from Shane van Gisbergen after a slow stop saw him move through the top 10 to come home fourth, managing a quick pass on yesterday’s winner Mark Winterbottom in the closing stages, finishing behind Will Brown who was awarded a 5-second penalty.
Cam Waters followed van Gisbergen through to be the first of the Fords home in fifth, leaving Brown sixth and Winterbottom seventh. Will Davison, Chaz Mostert and Todd Hazelwood rounded out the top 10.
The race also holds massive implications in the title battle, with championship leader Brodie Kostecki suffering steering arm damage following contact within the pack on Lap 1. The Erebus driver returned to pit lane for repairs, dropping four laps down on the leaders.
There were also difficulties for Matt Payne, whose difficult day at the track continued following contact with Jack Smith which sent both into a spin. The Kiwi returned to the back of the field and was slapped with a 5-second penalty for the contact.
With Kostecki classified as the last finisher, the lead to Brown in the championship is now reduced to 54 points, with Feeney now sitting third ahead of van Gisbergen in the standings.
Supercars next returns with the Townsville 500 on July 7-9.
