Kiwi’s Liam Lawson and Marcus Armstrong will start Sunday’s Formula 2 Feature Race in fifth and 12th place respectively, after this mornings qualifying session at Silverstone.
The Sprint Race on Saturday will see little change to the grid for the New Zealand drivers, with a reverse grid for the top ten drivers seeing Lawson move one spot to the right to start sixth, while Armstrong’s qualifying results remain unaffected with his 12th place finish.
Both kiwi drivers were setting times keeping them at the top end of the field, but late runs saw them drop several positions as other drivers succeeded their times.
American Logan Sargeant will start the race on pole, with Danish driver Frederik Vesti filling out the front row. The battle for 3rd was tight and saw championship leader Felipe Drugovich and Frenchman Theo Pourchaire setting identical times with a 1.38.553 each. Drugovich, however, set his time first so rounded out the qualifying top three.
It was a drama-free qualifying session, with a full spin on track by Drugovich on the final corner ending with him facing the correct direction and continuing on being one of the only incidents of note.
The Sprint Race will be screened on Sunday at 4am NZ time on Spark Sport, with the Feature Race that night at 9.05pm, also on Spark Sport.
